Petrichor plays garage rock. As lifelong Washingtonians, the members of Petrichor are steeped in the straightedge, socially-conscious punk that came out of DC and Dischord Records in the 1980s. They also take influence from Bikini Kill, Fidlar, Misfits, Green Day, and pop metal bands like Metallica.
Petrichor were inspired to form as a band after a turn at Girls Rock! DC, a social change and empowerment program disguised as a rock camp. The foursome has grown beyond band camp status thanks to the deeply supportive DC music scene.
Growing up in DC has given the members of Petrichor keen insights into both how much and how little any one person can change the world, as well as how important it is to just be a kid. In response, lyricists Mae Zellmer and Augusta Smith have written songs that reinterpret children's stories in late-Capitalist and post-social media terms.
